Carl's Backround

Carl Sassenrath was born in 1957 in California, his dad was a chemical engineer who was involved with petroleum refining research, paper production and air pollution control.
In his early childhood Carl Sassenrath was heavily involved with electronics such as, amateur radio, photography and film making. At the age of 13 he started to work for KEET , when he was 14 he became a cameraman for KVIQ,and he worked his way up KVIQ to become technical director, director for news, commercials, and local programming.
In 1980 Carl graduated from he University of California, Davis with a Bachelor of science in electrical engineering and computer science. While he was there he became interested in operating systems, parallel processing, programming languages and neurophysiology.

Carl's Job History

In 1982 he went to the south pole for upper atmospheric physics research.

In 1979-1983 he was a software engineer at HP, in 1982 he started an independent project to develop one of the first graphically oriented user interfaces with a bit-mapped display icons, font, a mouse, hyper-links and RPC, all made from scratch.

In 1983 he left HP to work for Commodore where he designed and implemented the Amiga OS kernel, which was one of the first operating systems to include multitasking and much more, for more info on the Amiga computers click this link.

After working for Commodore in 1986 Carl stared to work for Apple, where he was a part of the Apple Advanced Technology Group, where he was the lead developer for the next generation object-oriented operating system for a new multi-core Apple CPU.

After working for Apple from 1986-1988 he stared Sassenrath Research where he made Amiga Logo programming language, wrote a book and wrote code for companies such as Electronic Arts and Commodore.

In 1990 he became president for Panaray inc. Where he developed products such as CDTV (Commodore's CD-ROM system), the VISCorp Cable Box Operating System, one of the firs non-linear digital video editors and the firs motion video from CD-ROM.

After that he worked for VideoStream inc. For two years where he pioneered next generation interactive television technology for broadband systems.

In 1996 he left VideoStream, and in 2003-2009 he worked for Safeworlds inc. Where he designed and wrote AltME.

From 1998-2010 he also worked for Rebol Technologies, where he designed the Rebol language, which was focused on rapid software development methods. At Rebol he also created Rebol IOS.

In 2010 he started his current job at Roku, a company that develops small media streaming devices used to stream things such as Netflix or YouTube to your TV.
